Scenario
A modern-day tale of seeking fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch the most popular movies and TV shows from writer-director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user ratings. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a land manager’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of the digging machinery, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part repairman, problem-solver, and facilitator.
I’m sure you’ll find out which one!
Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series so I don’t have the expectations that seem to come with being a Yellowstone fan. The main story so far is engaging and exciting without being too over the top. There are a couple of subplots that develop well throughout the episodes but perhaps one of them compromises the overall quality of the show.
The cast details their characters well
The visual production is noteworthy; the direction and the environmental creation are to be enjoyed. It would be interesting to get the opinion of people working in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really directs the show well.
